Stop Gartree Wind Farm;

Planning Creep.

A feature of many Wind Farm applications is that once they are granted there is a very real prospect that both nearby fields and the surrounding area becomes a wind farm ‘alley’. Put simply, once the landscape character is degraded by the first wind farm it is much easier for developers to get permission for subsequent schemes. There is a real danger that if planning permission is granted for the Gartree site then subsequent extensions to this scheme and applications for further nearby developments will follow.

There are several parcels of land adjacent to the proposed Gartree site that could accommodate a number of further turbines. Some landowners have already expressed an interest in ‘piggy backing’ the Gartree scheme if it gets planning permission, a few are reserving judgement and others are very opposed.

Put yourself in the position of nearby landowners, they will be experiencing the impacts of the wind farm at close quarters without any benefits. It is only human nature for them to look to benefit from the huge rents available to landowners from Wind Farm Developers - around £20,000 per turbine per year for 25 years is a figure quoted for the Gartree development  - given that if Gartree wind farm is built then the landscape and amenity for local people would have already been damaged.

Locally at Burton Wold Wind Farm at Burton Latimer, planning permission is being sought by a neighbouring farmer to build the ‘Burton Wold Wind Farm Extension’. A separate business adjacent to the existing 99.5 metre high turbines but increasing their number from 10 to 17.

The town of Swaffam - very proud of their initial two turbines - now has an eight turbine Wind Farm just outside the town and a further six turbines proposed. There is a realisation that by being supportive in the first place they are now in danger of being surrounded by wind turbines!

So there are genuine grounds for fears that either an extension of this scheme or the placing of others locally may result if planning permission is given to Gartree.

This Wind Farm plan will have impacts on a large number of people not just in the immediate area. If you are in Market Harborough, East Farndon, Foxton, Gartree, Lubenham, Marston Trussell and even further beyond, Gartree Wind Farm will affect you.
